My horse is an almost 7 year old 1/2 Friesian gelding. He is my first horse... I want to be sure I get it right, but don't always feel that I have the knowledge to do that. It seems like Kai is very reactive to the food he eats, and I think that is thanks to his Friesian Dad. When he eats Alfalfa he's a mess. He is Jumpy, twitchy, spooky, grouchy and gassey, and his gas pedal is In the "go" position. For awhile my barn was feeding a very course Timothy hay, with lots of stems. On that feed, he was delightful. Now we have a different "cut" of Timothy, composed of more grass blades, and he is acting up again. (Granted, the temps have dropped 20 degrees as well.) I thought of going to Bermuda hay, but was told it doesn't contain enough nutrients. Is there a good, consistent low sugar grass hay that I can feed him?
